Arguing In the Street

Image
When I first moved to Midtown I had a great flat practically right in the center of all the action. I could walk across the street and enjoy the best Mexican restaurant in the city or take in a dinner and a show a block away. Bars everywhere! On hot nights, since my apartment didn't have the best air conditioning, I would sleep in the living room with the front door ajar (security screen locked) and the windows open to bring in a nice cross breeze.  Unfortunately, having the door and windows opened not only brought in the breeze but the noise from the local night life - people laughing and having a great time. On one particular night or should I say, early morning, I was rudely awakened by a couple arguing in the middle of the street. It sounded like they were right in my living room.  "You were looking at her!", the girl was yelling. "No babe... it wasn't like that." replied the exasperated boyfriend. It seemed like they had been at it fore...

April Blog Challenges Bring May Followers

Image
I hope! I have officially entered in next month's blogger challenge  A -Z! I'm extremely excited. This is an amazing opportunity to not only gain new followers but also to see how my writing evolves after posting every day for a month. Plus, how creative I can be to write every day, being limited to the theme of the challenge.  So in order to amp up for this event I will be slowing down on my post's for March.  Wish me luck. April is going to be a crazy ride!

March Featured Artist~ Creative Spirits

Image
My featured artists for the month of March Creative Spirits   Specializing in Native American Folk Art, David and Artis create some amazing work.  From oil paintings to miniatures, they do it all.  Dreamcatchers, spears, ceremonial daggers, leather purses and pouches, you name it, they have made it. All natural bone, leathers, feathers, and semi-precious gemstones are used to create authentic tribal pieces. No two alike. Located in the Foothills of California you can find these two at the local trade fairs or opening their home to the public for weekend shows. While David is busy painting away, Artis is at her table putting together some of very pretty South Western jewelry. They both are very camera shy which is why I have only their business card to share. This picture really doesn't do the miniature justice. To see it in person is truly a delight. The painting of the horse above reminds me of that song from the Rolling ...

The Fine Line Between Freedom of Religion and Discrimination

Image
Every morning I go to the same donut shop. Well it is more of a bakery but I go there just for the donuts. The owner is very nice. A little timid the first time she waited on me but it may have been the amulet I wore and still wear around my neck. She is a Christian lady. I can tell because of the dainty little gold cross she wears around her neck. I've come to expect some push back in this small community. Although I have experienced my share of discrimination for one thing or another, I keep on keeping on. Not everyone is going to disappoint me. Right?   It's now been a little over a year since I started going to this bakery. The owner has warmed up to me and calls me by my first name when I walk through her door. It's nice and the boundaries don't seem to exist any longer. I couldn't wait to see her this morning. I have exciting news! I'm going to get married!!! I can't think of any one else to bake the cake for my special day but Lisa.  I walked in w...

Dirty Vegas~ How Clean Is Your Hotel Room?

Image
Well I haven't posted in awhile due to a crazy schedule and February just seems to be flying by...  I thought I would share my latest experience in travel. First of all I know there are a lot of hotel nightmare stories out there and studies done about how often bedspreads are washed and so forth. For that very reason I tend to be a little manic when traveling. Not too bad, I don't have an ultra violet light but after my last trip to Vegas, I am seriously considering getting one.   I have to share these pictures with you. They are gross but it needs to happen.  The wash cloth is on the handle of this sink because when I got up in the morning to get ready, I noticed some very dry toothpaste just kicking it in the most unusual spot of the faucet handle.... nice.  After lining the counter top with a huge bath towel (had to put my toiletries somewhere "clean") I went to use the hair dryer. Until now I have NEVER seen such a filthy hair dryer. I...

Who, Where, and Why~ Happy Hour On The Grid

Image
Everyone loves Happy Hour! Drink specials, great snacks, and time to decompress with friends. Whether you are a frequent partaker of Happy Hour or just once in awhile, here are a few places that are a must in Midtown Sacramento. Note:  This post isn't a plug and I'm not getting any compensation for the reviews. In fact, they are not even aware I'm writing this! Tee Hee The Red Rabbit Kitchen and Bar   It's a cozy lil place with big foods and drinks. The bartenders are artists. And I mean ARTISTS! I'm not a fan of whiskey but this place has made me a believer. Rich, the bartender, puts together amazingly unique concoctions with basil, balsamic, raspberry puree and bourbon.... lordy! Lost my train of thought for a minute. It isn't just about the drinks, it's everything. The atmosphere is warm and inviting with a little speak easy feel... Great for dinner with that special someone or a quick bite and fabulous drink with a friend after work, hence ...

St. Valentine's Day Massacre~ No Flowers or Chocolates Required

Image
Here we go again... Valentine's Day is near.  A day for lovers!  Belch. If you are single and not happy about being single, this day is worse than not having anyone to kiss on New Year's Eve.  Why does it have to be so dreadful? The ones that have a really difficult time on Valentine's Day are in a relationship and don't get anything. No flowers, chocolates, fancy dinner, or even a freaking card. Yes, there are plenty of individuals that do not get something from their lovey.  T he best? Is when you are single and that "secret admirer" sends a beautiful rose. Not really... it's creepy. Secret admirers are stalkers.  Back in the day, this holiday was more like a lottery for lovers . Y oung girls would write down their names on slips of papers and put them in a bucket or urn. Urn sounds cooler... so urn it is.  Anyway, these names would be drawn by the young men. The drawer and drawee would then be coupled for the re...
